Went to the Shulas in Orlando once, remember it being decent.

I did like Dan Marinos over in St Pete when that was in Business. The Mahi Mahi was pretty good.

Shulas in Tampa is great if you want peace and quiet and service.. there are usually more people working there than customers.

I have no idea how they stay in biz.

Haven't been doing the  restaurant thing much with covid going on. I miss taking my wife to the classy place where they make the food right in front of you. We get there early to avoid the long Subway lines.

I am a huge fan of Flemings.  It is pricey, but to me it is generally a nice dining experience, and consistent.  We go when they have specials (if you get on their email list).  They used to have a $50 Filet and lobster tail (with sides and dessert), which is now $60... (although I haven’t seen it in awhile).  On Tuesdays they have a dinner for two (35 oz tomahawk steak with two salads, two sides and two desserts) for $125.  If you like carrot cake, and they have it, it is awesome.  (I was surprised about the lava cake review.... we’ve had it often, and with the fresh whipped cream plus ice cream it seems sweet enough).  If it is a birthday celebration, you do get the cheezy photo and a printed piece of paper saying happy birthday, but often times different things-  glasses of Champagne, truffles to go, gift cards, etc.

Alcohol is expensive - I think a Maker’s Mark on the rocks is about $14.

Tips for saving a little money:  Around holidays, at Costco you can get $100 gift card for $80.  And if you join Outback’s Dine Rewards program, for every 3 visits (flemings, outback, carrabas, bonefish) you get half off your 4th visit (up to $40 at flemings, $20 at the other 3).

A final note- they always send a follow up email asking about your experience.  The one bad experience i had was with my parents and girlfriend- celebrating 2 birthdays, and dinner with several cocktails was pretty expensive.  Steaks were not cooked correctly (only time ever), cold sides, etc.  I politely emailed back with our disappointment, and the issues.  Within a few hours I got a call from the guy who runs that location (he has been there for years), who was generally concerned.  Two days later I got a fedex from him with a $200 gift card.  When I went to throw the envelope out, another $200 gift card fell out...  I was shocked/impressed.

That being said- it can be expensive.  But for special celebrations, and you accept you will be paying $$$, for years it has been our “go-to.”

Have you tried other restaurant chains in the same price level though? Ie have you ever been to the capital grill?

Yes- Been to Capital Grill a few times- excellent.  Also been to Charlies several times (excellent), but haven't been there in MANY years.  Never been a fan of Ruth's Chris.  Also never been to Berns for dinner, which always gets me the "WHAT??? YOU'VE NEVER HAD DINNER AT BERNS???"

A definite draw for us with Flemings are the specials and money off (dine rewards/bonus gift cards).  Nothing at all against any of the other restaurants.

Correction to previous post:
Maker's Mark on the rocks is $16.  Pretty outrageous.
Dinner last night was good, but not stellar (The Tomahawk was a little bit fattier than normal)

Berns sucks.. there I said it (again). Capital grill is pretty good but I never get steak there.

Anytime someone said all excited "lets go to Berns" I would do my best to escape (unless just for desert or drinks)

Charlies is great just for the way they cook with the flame open pit thing...  steaks have a great char and crust to them so its a bit different.

I know, we are paying for the atmosphere not the food...but I'm pretty darn picky about my steaks. For $50, I'll go to the 4 Rivers Dessert Counter, pick up an awesome slice of whatever they have today, and cook my own dang steak perfectly, which WILL taste better than anything they are doing...and sit on the back deck with my wife and some Margaritas.

And I don't have to pretend to be nice to anybody.

When she wants to go out, we hit Texas de Brazil...the Lobster Bisque is on point, as is the appetizer bar and the little yucca flour rolls, and the steaks...well, I'm still a beef snob, but they are way better than what Outback and Longhorn makes. Plus, they have Caipirinha, which is my absolute favorite mixed drink.
