Colecovision 192 in 1? Comments?
« on: February 15, 2021, 08:23:03 PM »
Saw on Ebay tonight.  $40.

Still have an old school working one (well, it worked 5 years ago), and was thinking of this.  Ebay from France, change games with dip switches.

Any feedback?

Post a picture if you have one or can show it please.

I am not sure about this one.

I grew up with a Colecovision.  Great memories and a great system.

They have these for just about everything now, don't know why it wouldn't work.

I'll probably pop for one and report back.

I just checked out what Colecovision stuff was selling for online and couldn't believe it.

I've had mine probably 15 years or more and it wasn't give away, but was pretty cheap.  Most games boxed with instructions, also (some box quality meh...).

Worst case, can always throw in the multi cart if I decide to move it.

you have to flip a dip combo to load a game? that seems very 1998ish. :)

K7, c'mon.  They're French.

Easier to do that so they have more time for wine, cheese, sub-par domestic autos and mistresses.

Code more?  Ha!  Let the dumb Americans use dip switches!

Just a guess but the console may only be able to address a certain maximum cart ROM size. So flip a switch and get a menu of 10 games, different dip switch settings gets you the next 10 games, etc.

If you have to change it for each individual game, then yeah, that'll be tedious.

Some people are kind of psycho about "NES games MUST be played on original hardware, as they were intended, with all the original slowdown and flickering!" - but does anyone actually feel that way about Coleco games?
Emulation seems just fine to me.

i'm not knocking it. dip switches are retro-awesome. :)

but ya, it sure appears that you have to change it for whichever game you choose to play:

Sometimes the first batch of a multi-cart is a dip switch version. It might be because that's just easier with bank switching (like Niloc said) or the guy who made it hasn't figured out how to create an in-game menu/launcher.

With this many games it could be a major pain in the dick though.

Is this the only coleco multicart? If so I'm surprised given how many other even more obscure systems have multicarts these days.

So I had good intentions... but got distracted.  Story of my life.

Now out of stock.  I have a msg in to the seller.  Hopefully more will be along soon.

Nice.

I never did get the 192 in 1.  When I subsequently msgd seller back they had some kind of issue like a fire (?) and had suspended production.

It's foggy.  Don't even know if someone else is making one / something similar.
