Charlies cheesesteaks
« on: December 14, 2021, 05:31:48 PM »
anyone else notice these popping up all over?

pretty good I have to say but expensive.

The old school version with yellow/orange cheez like substance is pretty legit if you have ever been to Philly.

One just opened up in Jacksonville. I am anxious to try. I love South-Of-Philly in St. Augustine for more than just their Pinball!  ;D

Last week I was in Green Bay (low was 1 :o) Went to a place called Cheesesteak Rebellion, a hole in the wall Star Wars themed cheesesteak restaurant. Best cheesesteak I ever had by a good margin (and yes, have had them from Philly). As a bonus they had a few pinball and video games. They had a super nice WH20, first game was a bust but got the match for a free game and then proceeded to rape the game and came within 4 million of GC  8)
Pins: TAF, FG (not the Ah-Haaa one), SM, FH, LOTR. NGG
Past Pins: SM, IJ, STTNG x2, WH2O x3, CFTBL, NGG, ES, MB, TFTC, LW3, TZ, SS, BG, LOTR, Monopoly couple of EM's
Other (AKA Vids): Cocktail MAME

yah but for fast food its pretty good.

Its also kinda gross which is really what cheesesteak is all about.

If its too good its not really philly style, has to be kinda gross like Philly itself.  :P

Its a drive through fast food place.. I didnt say it was nice (Delcos isnt either).

For what it is its good,  still recommend it. Its expensive for fast food though.

I have a Delcos 10 minutes from me Id eat Charlies over Delcos so i dont have to stand there for 20 minutes and wait in line.

Yeah these were mall staples before they started having stand alones.. maybe they were trying to follow the Chick-fil-a plan?

They are OK at the mall but once again Publix will sell you a good philly for probably less.

$12.00 philly cheese steak. it was really good. ;D

our charlie's is still mall-based. but a subway sub is over 10 bucks, so pretty close in price.

I was fully expecting it to suck but they do a good job, better than most fast food.

Just to follow up... I went again and they have chicken cheesesteaks also.

These chicken based ones  it turns out are not so great so stick to the beef ones.  :P

I grew up an hour North of Philly and cheesesteaks are slightly different up there.  They include tomato sauce or mild chili sauce, little bit of onion and American cheese, NEVER cheez whiz.  If in Allentown at PinFest the Farmers market has a valid cheesesteak, Zandy’s is nearby and legit, as is Yocco’s.  A good fresh roll makes all the difference.

Much rarer was a ‘Weber’ - basically a California cheesesteak; meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes & mayo.  This has very little to do with a real cheesesteak.

I was a short order cook up there when I was younger and made a killer cheesesteak, pickles, hot peppers & mushrooms optional.

When I see ‘Philly Cheesesteak’ down here I just laugh and shake my head.

(Chicken is not valid, it is a Cheese-STEAK)

Oh…I see Charleys is from Columbus, OH and still based there.  I went to college in Ohio and they have no idea what a cheesesteak is.

Im from Miami and I do the same thing when it comes to a 'Cuban'.  There are little to NO variations when it comes to a traditional Cuban Sandwich.  Add lettuce or tomatoes, etc. and its no longer a real cuban.
