Star Trek Prodigy
« on: January 13, 2022, 08:33:17 PM »
Star Trek Prodigy - this one is definitely for kids. Way more than the original Star Trek: The Animated Series ever was.

It's 3D animated, and that part is very competent. Looks like one of the better non-Pixar movies, like something from Dreamworks.

Doesn't look or feel like Star Trek at all until a Voyager-class ship is found, along with a hologram of Captain Janeway to guide the all-alien-kids crew.
Even then if feels like the Star Trek stuff was just kind of glued on to a different series.

I only made it 2 episodes in. It's still better than Picard and most of the other new Trek series. It's not the worst thing, but it's definitely aimed at young kids rather than "all audiences".

Is it actually any good at all though?

Of the 'new era' Star Trek I liked the first movie, maybe the 3rd as action schlock and that's about it. Every show has looked just awful to me.

It's not offensively bad, but it's not worth watching as an adult. Young kids may like it, but "not complete garbage" is about the best I could give it.
