advice on Nascar display

Hey all, my nascar pin took a small road trip and upon returning the display went out. We set the game up, turned it on and it said open the coin door. (It had no batteries installed). Upon closing the coin door the display went off and never came back on. Also a strong smell of burning electronics seemingly coming from the PC board area. Found 2 bad fuses, which were replaced but still no display. This game is super clean all over with no hacks to my knowledge. The game will coin up and play normally, just w/o the display.
I have the manual for it but I'm not too good at diagnostics.
Any ideas where to look are greatly appreciated.

I’m sure something has shorted and/or reseat all the connectors in the backbox

borrow and replace the display. probably was grounded out somewhere. bonus: they're cheap.

borrow one, or lend out your display to another machine to test it.

but playing blind should be a simple part swap.
