Tampa airport shuts down completely on Tuesday.

I'm in Perry, GA at the moment - had to leave early to ensure a room for my folks.

FYI every hotel south of here seems to be full, so if you are evacuating and need a room, plan to drive to Northern Georgia or maybe even beyond that. Gonna be a mess by Tuesday night.

godspeed, brothers. hope it's a weak ass 2 whereever she lands.

i'd go south and east if you're trying to get out. north seems pointless for this at this point.

The main problem is Tampa. South Tampa floods with every single normal thunderstorm. A direct hit, where it pushes all the water in the bay up, and even worse if it happens near high-tide... well Tampa is fucked. The city is not ready for it. Miami knows it's a possibility, Tampa likes to pretend that their natural protection is bulletproof.

We definitely are looking better but South Tampa is still going to flood.

Yeah Wife has a friend that flew in this week for whatever reason and he's shocked that his flight today got cancelled and there's no hotel rooms anywhere. It's like dude.

But glad you were able to find a spot. Sister-in-law moved from one hotel to another in Savannah because she was afraid the original one was in a flood zone.. 800 miles away.. lol

Yup, looks like it's just about to hit Ft. Myers/Sarasota.

Still not good for Tampa, looks like it's going to take a while to blow past, but not nearly as bad as it looked before.

Gonna hang out here until its passed and I can check that the power is back on at home. There's an intriguing fast-food place called "Cookout" that I must investigate. "Bacon Wrap" is a side item? They seem to understand their business.

Hope everyone survived. Our worst damage was this tree falling over about 1 hour into the storm. Was a bitch to cut up and put by the curb.. we'll see if the county actually picks it up.

Called my Parents day after storm, Mom reported the Hurricane "Blew the roof off the Garage" where I still have some games. So I went over expecting the worst.. found this:

My mom likes to exaggerate.

We lost power Thursday at like 2am (ie after the majority of the storm passed) but I think that was caused by a tree a few streets down falling on a power line. It probably didn't fall until that time. We were without Power until Saturday evening.

Internet is still spotty. It goes off in the middle of the night and comes back at around 9 or 10am. I don't care because I'm at work but sucks for my Wife who works from home. We have a Wireless hotspot but Verizon has been throttling data in our area.. it was completely unusable until Sunday. It works now but you get around 2-3 Megabits down which is usable but not great.

Can't complain people down south obviously got it worse.

Cookout is decent. Their signs look like a high schooler made them but its your typical fast food joint but its' not bad.

Traveling is always interesting as you get so much more variety in restaurants. Being stuck in the extreme east coast really limits what we see. Whenever we go to Tulsa to visit my in-laws it's shocking how many options they have given their more central location. Here it's the same what.. 4 restaurants copied and pasted over and over.. some only a mile apart.

Yeah, it's odd how in GA there are still Captain D's, Bojangles, Hardees, etc. - those came to the Tampa area to die, then never came back.
Hardees is kind of pointless these day - very, very limited menu. Just burgers, chicken sandwiches and fries at the one I stopped at.

Plus the ones like Cookout that haven't made it here yet (and maybe never will).

As far as damage goes, nothing too bad on my side. Some big branches down, gutters down, etc. - all the usual that you'd expect. Power was out for a while, up and down Fri/Sat/Sun but seems fixed now. Internet is never not spotty so that's hard to tell - working at the moment though.
