Any Hot Rod carb tuners here
« on: August 20, 2022, 09:15:20 AM »
Just bought a 1969 Ponitac Lemans with a built 428. Radical cam with 5-6 inches of vacuum at idle. Has a Holly 750 double pumper. It is running rich at low rpm's and idle. I know I need to change power valves but not sure if a 4.5 valve will work. Any input would be nice..... Thanks Scott

Not at all.  I would probably go with the Holley Sniper EFI.

Honestly, I stopped messing with carburetors years ago.  It seemed like you had to adjust them constantly to keep them tuned.

Reach out to Fred (turboderf).  He is into Hot Rods and can probably answer your question or point you in the right direction.

Thanks for all the replys. I did put the 3.5 power valve in and it did help, but with the radical cam I had to open up the secondary plates 1 1/2 turns and then was able to get the carb. Where it needed to be. One day I will go efi and a 4 speed auto so I can take her across the state... 😎

A carb is great for the dragstrip, but EFI is a must for drivability.

Sid, did you use efi on your toy? If so what system did you use?
