Old School Pizza Joints in Tampa / Suncoast?
« on: March 13, 2023, 06:14:18 PM »
Looking for old school independently owned pizza joints in Tampa / Pinellas / Pasco / Hernando / Citrus (why not)?

Stuff that's been there forever like Little Italy in St Pete or Alfonso's in North Tampa.

Not fancy, not pretentious, not chain, not full of hipsters, just locally owned, good pizza, good subs.

By my mentioning the two above, both meet the test with A+++.

What's out there that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

I'd usually recommend East Coast Pizza in Riverview, but our last trip wasn't as stellar as it has always been since we moved to Apollo Beach.  The pizza is usually top notch and I'll chime back in after we go again to whether it was a one-off or not.  I know it hasn't been around since the 70s but it's still a staple in our area.

San Remo's on 41 in Apollo Beach has definitely been around a lot longer and has good pizza and other Italian dishes.

This place has the best pizza I have had in the area, located in Clearwater:

A little more hole in the wall place in Tampa:

Pizzas are good and really like their Philly

Then the Brandon icon since 1978:

I know they have new owners, have heard the pizza is the same (that's a good thing) have to get a double decker if you go there.

I ate at Cristino's here in Clearwater Last Saturday.  Best local pizza hands down.

Only had it there twice. First time was blown away how good it was, next time brought the family and was sure it was not going to be as good as I remembered, and it was  :)

A few years ago they opened one in Ybor! Super excited, went there with several coworkers and... it was nothing like the original :( Don't think the place lasted a year before it was gone.
