The movie club voted on this instead of MICKEY 17 as chances are it wouldn't be around more than a week. I knew nothing about it only that it was Milla, Bautista and probably directed by Milla's Husband (it was) which usually equals a good low budget time.
Alas.. no.
INTO THE LOST LANDS was entirely shot on one stage with a fuckton of green screen and looks every part of it. Apparently the CGI cost by the color so they just chose brown for this post apocalyptic wasteland so everything is just drab and boring.
The plot is based on a George RR Martin short story.. it's basically a fairy tale but told in a dystopian future. It probably works as a short story but when padded out to feature length there's just not much here. The characters are card board, the dialogue would make George Lucas wince.. the action sequences are uninspired as everything is clearly artificial. Milla and Dave sorta try but there's really not much here for them to work with.
Overall this is a SCI-FI channel movie that works best when watched on a plane or in a hotel on 3pm when it's raining outside.. but in any other scenario you have better options.
It was also apparently completed in 2022 which shows you the confidence they had in it.
