Pinball Prices, what is going on with the decline in prices?
« on: August 08, 2023, 01:27:19 PM »
Why are pinball prices seemingly in a decline?  I have been collecting for over 20-years and have only seen prices increase over that period of time.

Are the prices being influenced by supply and demand dynamics because the hobby in a decline?  Or, is the decline being financially driven because people have less money to dedicate to the hobby?

There are experts on the village that way more knowledgeable than I.  What are their thoughts?

Decline, i don't think so, not yet, barcades are popping up everywhere and pinballs seem to attract a younger crowd these days.
Most of all a correction vs the crazy pinflation in 2021 & 2022, and as you said, supply / demand / economy we moved from a sellers market to a buyers market.
Same things is happening for watches and other pricey collectors items

Near future, no. When boomers and gen X will all be too old to play with 300lb games,  yes

I’m not here to support or deny pinball prices.

Maybe you should ask that question to people involved in the financial / equity / legal industry?

I appreciate your concern with the economy but I cannot offer any advice.

IMHO, when you see a lot of loan / lease defaults happening. . . to me, in my opinion, it raises a red flag.

Luxury items get defaulted 1st, then the other things.

No professional advice is given here, just my rusty nickel of an opinion.

I don’t know anything, if I did I wouldn’t still be working!

Happy gaming and kind regards from,
Big Al

You can view historical prices for any title on Pinside.  [View the splash screen and scroll down.]  The typical price trend for many used titles shows a surge in 2022 and flattening trend this year.  I expect things will stay flat for a while until returning to the slower linear growth we had prior to 2022.

Better yet, theres a article recently released that shows graphically the increase of pinflation for each type of game; DMD, EM, SS, Alpa-num, etc...  Its actually pretty cool and easy to read the graphs so you can visually see the increases.

Nice, a pinside thread  :P

There are what 3500 or so "let's argue about pinball pricing" threads on there?

Its pretty simple.. during covid people had extra money being thrown at them and nothing to do being stuck at home.

There was also a shortage of parts and games so prices shot up and FOMO was crazy. Even shitty games like GNR sold crazy numbers at stupid prices (no offense to anyone).

Its correcting and coming back to reality like allot of things.

Twip highlighted this article, I thought your post was related to it: https://www.kineticist.co/post/pinflation-on-ice
What i find difficult (and fascinating) with pineconomics, is much of the sales data are not available. We can do the math for Spooky, but the number of games realy sold by Stern or JJP (not just sold to distro) is a bet.
Ted does a great job at analyzing the used market, but it's based mainly from pinside and ebay stats, which are not entirely reliable and that's maybe 30% of the market according to him.
Anyway, like Al said, just humble personal opinions here

Contact stern and tell them to raise it even more ….. I find it reasonable to charge 10 k for a pro 15 k for a premium and 20k for an Le 1 of 1000 .with a plaque and a piece of paper for speak and spell equipment. Very reasonable .. for a very special 1 of 500 zizzle from Elwin for 5 to 8k being super limited and small that you can take on trips  8) ;D

Any buying a JJP GFCE at $15,000 doesn't seem like a wise purchase at that price. No where to go but down?
Sure doesn't have a lot of room to go up IMHO.

Now we have 15K Elton John's Collector's Edition's. At least the price didn't go up from The Godfather CE pricing.
