Hope everyone is OK.
Hurricane stuff:
The storm-surge in the Tampa area was pretty high - the canals all overflowed the sea-wall, and long before that the storm drains (which drain to the canals) are covered so the streets flood immediately.
Flooding only lasted about 12 hours here, so not that bad.
It seems like this is only an issue if the storm hits North of Tampa - no surge at all with the ones that came close recently, but hit South of here.
With hurricane Alena, back in the 80's, the storm surge got just high enough to dump brown canal water into the neighbor's pool.
This time it was a few inches shy of that - the pool is still there and hasn't changed in 40+ years. It got halfway up the pool deck & left debris, but stopped there.
This one was much more powerful than Alena though - it was farther out and passed by much more quickly, but the storm surge was almost as bad. Alena just sat in the Gulf for days.
My folks also got 4 free random wooden deck chairs that floated onto their back lawn. Various boat parts too.
The storm hit right where the track said it would for once, right in the armpit of Florida. I'll start trusting it if they get the next two in a row right.
