So the track on the current one is showing North of Tampa.

Last two that came into the Gulf, the tracks showed them hitting Tampa - but they went way South.

So this time, since it shows it not hitting Tampa, it's basically guaranteed to hit Tampa right?

I dunno, I'm planning to just sit this one out. Doesn't look like it'll be too severe. Plus I'd have to start the herding cats process and leave Monday to get a hotel anywhere in Georgia.
I'll be regretting it if the power goes out for days though.

Right now a bunch of meteorologists and weather computers are shaking chicken bones in a jar.

I mean seriously they can't predict where it's going to land 2 hours before it lands.

But as you said, Category 1 so I'm not too worried no matter where it hits. Power outage is probably the biggest concern but parents just bought a Generac so I got a place with A/C now lol.

+1
The graphic at the top has it becoming a major.
Plus they didn't know a slow moving storm in the hot gulf days ago would get stronger? We haven't seen this before?

Yikes.. good luck to everybody over that way.

One of the things I definitely don't miss about Florida. Storms are getting bigger and bigger every year..

Not sure what I would do... back when Irma hit (2017?) that was supposed to crush downtown Tampa so I left only to have it follow me up the middle of the state and go right over my head.

My house in Tampa was literally untouched other than a few fallen branches.

Much like doctors weather people are only educated guessers, they get it wrong as often as right.  :P

Because its before oct 10, i say north of tampa.

I hope so. I’m just south if the Skyway !

Hurricanes wear me out - took me a few months just to drain the gas outta’ my generator from the last storm.  Those new portable fuel tanks are totally childproof - I can barely use those damn things.

Best wishes for all.

Happy gaming,

Big Al

Hope everyone is OK.

Hurricane stuff:

The storm-surge in the Tampa area was pretty high - the canals all overflowed the sea-wall, and long before that the storm drains (which drain to the canals) are covered so the streets flood immediately.
Flooding only lasted about 12 hours here, so not that bad.

It seems like this is only an issue if the storm hits North of Tampa - no surge at all with the ones that came close recently, but hit South of here.

With hurricane Alena, back in the 80's, the storm surge got just high enough to dump brown canal water into the neighbor's pool.
This time it was a few inches shy of that - the pool is still there and hasn't changed in 40+ years. It got halfway up the pool deck & left debris, but stopped there.

This one was much more powerful than Alena though - it was farther out and passed by much more quickly, but the storm surge was almost as bad. Alena just sat in the Gulf for days.

My folks also got 4 free random wooden deck chairs that floated onto their back lawn. Various boat parts too.

The storm hit right where the track said it would for once, right in the armpit of Florida. I'll start trusting it if they get the next two in a row right.

on august 27th, they were still saying it "might be a category 1". they don't have a clue on how the gulf of mexico works. :P

they corrected themselves on monday afternoon, at least.

Well, I’ll stick with my guy, our local FAC weatherman who even has his own ‘ call sign ‘.

When he’s done predicting the weather he can also fix my machines before the storm so while I’m stuck at home I can play all my machines while I’m stuck inside.

Get that man a case of soda and a cheesesteak on me.

Ps  btw: if bay news 9 hires you hammy, I wanna go hang out on the set with Holly Gregory

Happy gaming,
Big Al

Flooding seems to have been the worst of this one.

In the Brandon area we just got some howling wind and rain, not even a momentary power blip which is nice.. lost power for almost a week during last years as big tree got strategically downed.

Lots of activity brewing right now but lets home this is the last. I know this is the time of year we normally get our Hurricane.
