DMD display issue on Williams Indiana Jones
« on: February 12, 2024, 09:12:59 PM »
I have had issues from time to time with images garbled for a few seconds, but then it works fine for days with no issues. Today though there are extra lines on the sides and the images are not quite right permanently. I have reseated ribbon cables on DMD board, but it hasn’t helped. I read it could be the u24 6264 chip. Any ideas on what to do is appreciated. Thanks- Lou

Also when I run a display test, at the end it says RAM ADDRESS ERROR.

Are you referring to the u24 6264 chip?

Thanks! I just wish it was a socketed chip. I don’t feel comfortable desoldering and resoldering a new chip. My soldering skills are limited! Maybe I’ll just buy a new Rottendog board from Pinball Life.

an old post shows a guy had an asic chip on his MPU that was just not seated tight, causing your exact issue. free to test at least.

The ASIC chip seems to be seated nicely. 😀

I can replace it with a socket if you like, will only take a few minutes and save you a pile of greenbacks

Well I swapped DMD driver board with a Rottendog board from my Whitewater and the display is still not quite right. I swapped the DMD display with the one from my Whitewater and problem still persists. I swapped ribbon cable from DMD display from Whitewater and still not working. I’m going to keep trying to reseat ribbon cables. It seemed almost perfect at one point, but as it kept running, the display got worse. I did a display test, and it said RAM test ok now. Hopefully I can get it right tomorrow!!

Reverse test the DMD in the Whitewater and see if it looks OK.

The DMD is working perfectly in Whitewater. I swapped all ribbon cables from Whitewater and I still can’t get display to work properly. Well at least I know it’s not the DMD driver board or the u24 Ram chip. After display test, it shows RAM ADDRESS ERROR again. Any ideas on what to try next??

Ok I think I figured it out. I kept checking connections of ribbon cables. One looked a little old and bent. I switched it out again with the one from Whitewater, and it works perfectly now. Thanks for everyone’s responses!

you swapped everything and still had problems. :)
