Civil War
« on: April 16, 2024, 11:51:37 AM »
Anyone else got anything here?  :P

Got generally good reviews but I didn't see much to get into.

Movies have to be either entertaining or make you think/care about the people and or characters and this really did neither. When main characters met their end I was actually relived that they were gone.

For sure don't care about journalists and their huge egos that they are somehow the most amazing humans for putting themselves in harms way over and over like idiots.  Sorry no sympathy there..

Other than "we are headed here" (no shit) obviousness I fail to see the point.

You may like it..

I'm not saying it was bad or anything just didn't have the intended effect on me which is not uncommon.  :P

We saw Civil War last night.

I think the biggest problem here is with the marketing as it's made people expect an entirely different movie than what you actually get. At it's heart Civil War is a very simplistic and shallow film about combat photo journalism. The American Civil War angle is simply a gimmick.. they needed a war to set the film in and instead of using a made up conflict in some random third world location they used the United States most likely because they thought it was be more controversial and personal to viewers.

However that Civil War backdrop is simply that, at no point does the movie delve into politics of any sort and any setup for this conflict are kept vague.. it's unimportant.. this is a movie about Journalists.

So while the action sequences are silly at times and the script is extremely basic and predictable.. I enjoyed the cast and the visuals. The pacing was also fine.. I was never bored. This definitely isn't a memorable movies for the ages or anything but if taken for what it is it's enjoyable on some level.. but you really do need to go in with your expectations set low.

I agree and would think this was a way to hide behind a general premise to make the whole thing work, and yes the trailer is misleading to a degree.

Would assume making a movie about an actual Civil war in the US would not be a wise move even if fictionalized.... everything is way too politically charged these days.

This way they can kind of hide behind the journalism story but still comment on the political divide without taking sides basically.

Its a bitch move but I get it... :P

I am sure no studio on the planet would take on an actual US modern civil war movie, that would take huge balls.
