Attack From Mars Remake CE/SE/LE Production Numbers
« on: August 26, 2024, 01:51:54 AM »
I found our discussion quite engaging and wanted to delve deeper into it. In a sales thread regarding an AFM Remake machine, I noted an interesting detail: the version with the smaller DMD is reportedly rarer than the Limited Edition (1,000 produced). According to a CGC VP I spoke with at IAAPA, approximately 400 Classic Edition AFM's were produced.

While this may not have a huge impact, it's an intriguing point to consider. When looking at Pinside's archived sales, here's how the numbers break down:

Sales Numbers Breakdown:
-AFM Classic: 80 sold over the years.
-AFM Special: 187 sold over the years.
-AFM Limited: 276 sold over the years.

Sales Percentage Breakdown:
-AFM Classic: 14.73%
-AFM Special: 34.44%
-AFM Limited: 50.83%

Given that 1,000 AFM Limited units were sold, here are the AI Estimated sales numbers for the other editions based on the sales percentage breakdown from Pinside Sales:

-AFM Classic: 290 units sold.
-AFM Special: 677 units sold.
-AFM Limited: 1,000 units sold (as given).

Would anyone contribute their Serial Number with production date? I would like to do an analysis to see if these numbers are likely.

I reviewed all the listings on Pinside and managed to extract 12 serial numbers along with their manufacturer dates from the sale photos. Using this data, I had AI generate a likely list of manufacture dates for the machines:

Does anyone have a serial that is above 3,300?

The release strategy was 100SE's first (June/July 2017), then the LE's (July-August, 2017), then more SE's (August-October, 2017), then CE's (starting in October/November, 2017) along with the rest of the SE's.

Serial Structure:
-LE's were 0-1000
-SE's were 1001 thru ?
-CE's were 3000 thru ?

Wow good work!

My Classic is 3065 Nov 29, 2017 production so goes along with time line above.

CGC did not make as many Classics probably because folks did not want them.   They $6499 price along with no color chip which was a must have because they not only colored the dots but redid the dots with better sharper graphics.  $400 color chip brought classic to $6900.  Well Why not just get a special for $7300 with the larger screen if you missed out on the 1000 LE’s?  2017 was a time when color dmds were very popular to swap out even with “classic” BW’s.  Even the purists seemed to like them.

Also CGC did lower the price of classics to $6000 from $6500 later on - this is “from what I remember”.   $6000 AFM anyone?  Anyone?

CGC added the xl panel back for MMR non royal and MB and AFM classics owners.  I added one at the beginning of the year and it’s great.  Highly recommend.  It pretty much makes a Classic a Special for AFM.

Thanks

It's amazing how easily we can get sidetracked when we're drunk and bored. :)
