YouTube and Ad-Blockers
« on: January 16, 2024, 10:32:11 PM »
So if anyone is having trouble with YouTube and any ad-blocking software working together, here's a nice tip I read today;

If you've got a VPN, set it to Albania or Moldova. It's illegal for YouTube to have advertisements in those countries.

There are many other ways to get around it (just logging out of your account may still work) but this is a good one.

I'm still able to download YouTube videos with no issues (and no ads) so that's nice too, it's just annoying to have to download a 6 second video.

That is a great tip, thanks! Also, if you have an android device, there is an alternative app for youtube called 'SmartTube' that works very well... no ads, plus it skips past in-video sponsored ads too.
Just please note that where you are able, consider at least alternative means of support for those youtube creators you most value.

adblock and ublock origin (or ublock lite). under chrome.

if you use MS edge, there's no help for you. :P

i have not watched a youtube ad in 7 years.

this covers almost every website.

also, you blocking an ad does not affect a streamer. youtube, twitch has no idea what you do on your end.

uBlock is great and I use it. Posted this back when it was (temporarily) not effective vs. YouTube ads (or YouTube tried to block accounts using it).

Seems fine now but YouTube/Google/Alphabet will try it again sooner or later. They are an avertising company above all else, so they're never going to stop trying to force the ads.

i don't know what my exact working combo is, but youtube is pure success.

currently, i've got twitch ads also 95% defeated. it's a constant grind, to say the least.
