Best of luck to everyone.

They keep moving the track slightly South, then slightly North again - we're clearly not really going to know until it hits.

At least there's nothing much I can do but relax for a couple days now at this crummy hotel. We got some supplies earlier and I hope the power stays on - this place is dicey with electricity.

Bottled water is sold out here (Davenport, near Orlando), must be far worse in Tampa. I'm just filling empty bottles with water now.
They did still have that bullshit "Liquid Death" water but it was like $16 for a 12-pack of cans. Fuck that. 8 pack of small Gatorade bottles was $7.89. Shit is insane.

My Mom decided to evacutate before Helene, so my brother took her to a hotel in Lakeland. They cut it way too close, but it worked out and saved their car.

My Dad (82), on the other hand, wanted to stay at the house, so I figured I better stay with him for his own safety.

So after the flooding had started to recede, I went downstairs to asses the damage and immediately slipped and busted my ass/hip.
No major damage but my legs & ass are still sore now, and all the cleanup work didn't help.

I also got sick right after the flooding. Must have gotten exposed to something nasty. Had a fever for the next 3 or 4 days, and the runs, and my energy ran out after about 5 minutes of any activity.

So my Dad and I had to live in that for the next 2 days. The air quality is really bad, and the stench was revolting.
Once my brother got back and started helping with the cleanup he reported feeling sick, light-headed, etc. while having to breathe that crap too.

I'm recovering but it's slow as hell. I still sometimes start sweating profusely after much less effort than usual.

And now the TV doesn't even work in this shitty hotel room.

I'll stop complaining now, it's just that The Village is the only thing I can currently log into so it's my only way to vent.

that sucks man.. be well.. this has just been an absolute shit show of a year and now it seems like it's going to just get worse.

Some good news.. well for some of us.. it seems like it's shifting south. I think Tampa might still be underwater no matter what but that's better than a direct hit which would be devistating.

Still sorry that Hotel sucks, it's amazing its that bad at a name brand chain.

There was a run on Gas Sunday, we got some of the last Plywood on Monday when wife decided last minute we should board up.. I don't blame her. Had to pay $50 a sheet for stuff meant for flooring but whatever it's up and should hold up well.

It interesting seeing the Hurricane dance with all the new transplants.. just making everything even harder. Maybe some of them will leave afterwards.. I know this has made me want to accelerate my get the fuck out of Florida plans. Constantly Hot, Constantly surrounded by Cunts and now.. constant Hurricanes.. and yeah I know east coast has been that for awhile but Tampa has been lucky all this time.

It's kind of amazing how crummy this place is. I'm definitely bitching to Wyndam though I doubt it'll do anything.

I've stated in hundreds of hotels/motels, mostly for work travel over the years. Many of them low-end places.
This one is in the bottom 3 for sure, maybe tied with the place in Atlantic City (but on the mainland side, not the island) that had mice jumping in and out of the trash cans all night, or the Mid-Iowa motel, which had a lumpy bed and dead millipedes on the floor - at least they were dead though, and it only cost $18 a night tax included, in 2003.

This dump though - I've killed 3 baby cockroaches so far, my parents room smells like mildew, there is mold inside all the AC units, the restaurant they advertise does not exist (not that you'd want to eat there), the trash cans are tiny yet very heavy (made of metal) and they wouldn't even give my parents a 2nd one - I could literally list 100 more issues.

The only nice thing I can say about it is that the mattresses are decent.
This was probably a nice place in 1985 - it just hasn't been maintained at all since then.

I'm going to try very hard not to pay for this. Complaint emails, maybe even a credit-card chargeback if possible.

Motel 6 has always been fine. Even the Motel 7 I stayed at once in New Mexico was fine. I'm not picky.

Every single other hotel/motel has had a room phone though. A few were still rotary phones, but they had them. Not this place.

Whatever your views are on global warming and climate change etc. you can look at the data on water temperatures in the gulf etc. They measure this shit so it’s not like its deniable.

People always say “Florida has always had hurricanes” blah blah but now they are the size of the entire state because the water temp is rocket fuel. Its pushing 90 degrees and has been over 100.

Storms are just going to keep getting larger and more frequent year after year.

Starting to be allot like California where they just ignore the fact that the state is on a fault line and half the state could fall into the ocean.... its when not if.

I was able to get propane ( refill not that 75% filled exchange crap)  this morning, gas filled up last-night, home depot still had full sheets of ply for $30 at 4pm today, and still had propane as well, gas stations around MLK started drying up on gas, Costco still had gas, Costco had pallets of generators yesterday, i stocked up on a bunch of foods to eat over next three days, if the power goes out, i plan on keeping the windows boarded up to keep the heat out, i can live with the dark. based on math and numbers, i should be able to stay on generator for for 5 days.. without looking for gas.

Target was busy (and sold out of many things) earlier here in Davenport, but Walmart around 9pm was a fucking madhouse - and this is pretty much in the middle of the state.

Most places had the gas pumps closed too, out of gas. Wawa had gas but somehow no regular - they had mid-grade though, and generally that's just a mix of regular and premium so that's all a bit sketchy. They may get got by the anti-gouging laws.

if the price is in line with local stations, it's not gouging.

Yeah I've stayed in some dives but usually if it has interior corridors its OK.

At least it's some place safe to ride out the storm..

Even with this going further south the storm surge in Tampa is still going to be catastrophic

The weather is definitely changing, as we discussed previously the heat here is a lot worse than it used to be. I remember it being rather chill by the end of September and definitely into October.. not cold but perhaps jacket weather. Now October feels like June.

And yeah Hurricanes have always been a thing but they are starting to heat up on the west coast which is a change.

So it's horrible heat, overcrowded everything with assholes and now constant hurricanes.. yeah no thanks

https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/All_U.S._Hurricanes.html

Historical data doesn't mean much because these water temps didn't exist.  Every year now is new record temps..

I have eyes.. you can see the size of the storms the last few years.

The one in 2017 was the size of the entire state and look at the size of this f-kcer.

All I am saying the days of "we never get hurricanes" are over, the entire state is at risk every year now.

I saw the damage in Homestead and the surroundings first hand in 1992, I would want no part of that shit.

I was thinking about this, honestly, its smart to sell the mid grade gas, it will give the customer a higher chance of getting gas at a reduced cost., otherwise, they would run out of regular, and then everyone would have to pay for premium... at some point, by forcing only mid-grade, you equally disperse the cost of the cheap and the expensive gas to everyone.  at some point the tanks of regular or premium will go dry, and they can then sell of of whats left

Yep. Well hopefully. It's definitely better than not having a room at all.
