Lord of the Rings cartoon thing

Love some LOTR and the pinball is probably my favorite of all time. This movie though...

I mean its not bad but its infected with more woke BS like everything else. And its way too long for what it is...

Its taken from something the man actually wrote but they basically wrote in a female hero character because I guess dudes aren't allowed anymore?

So she went from unnamed in the actual story to hero of the whole movie. DEI joy...

"Tolkien gave details on the deaths of Helm and his sons, Haleth and Hama, but the fate of his unnamed daughter is left unclear.[7] The producers decided to expand on her role, making her the protagonist of the film.[9] The first name suggested for the character did not start with "H", but Boyens thought it should start with the same letter as Helm, Haleth, and Hama"

I've read they only cranked this out to maintain the license to Tolkien properties. There's supposed to be a new live-action LoTR thing coming out directed by Andy Serkis (guy who played Gollum) but no idea what that's going to cover, license may have run out before that otherwise.

The strange thing is that it looks like they spent money on this. Same with all those shitty Sony Spider-Man villain movies without Spider-Man.
They knew why they were making them, why spend any money at all on them? Put out a Rodger Corman level movie or even lower budget than that, still serves the purpose.

Put out something that looks direct-to-VHS, but in theaters. Sure, people who spend money on it will be pissed, but more pissed than with "Madame Web"?

It wasn't that bad I just kind of resented the concept.

I blame the Barbie movie.... it made so much $$ studios think they can bank on women lining up for every new female hero type movie (not the case).

They are going out of their way to cram strong female hero roles into pretty much everything and not for the better.

Yeah, it seems pretty basic - got a property where the fanbase is mainly women & girls - focus on them. Fanbase where it's mainly men... you're not just gonna make women magically interested in it all of the sudden, and you're going to bore the men who would otherwise have paid to see it.

Yeah we saw it this week as it was either that or Kraven and I suspect we still made the right choice.

It's -- OKAY --

The animation is good in parts but wonky in others. The story is basic, the characters mostly cliche.

It does definitely have the girl boss vibes that Hollywood seems to fucking love these days despite the fact that most girls could give a toss about these movies.

I didn't hate it. I thought it was about 30 minutes too long as it drags in parts. I'm not sure that I'd recommend it either.

They are clearly trying to squeeze whatever they can out of the Tolkien license but honestly the LotR trilogy was good enough. They probably had a *single* good Hobbit movie had they not added 6 pointless hours of filler.. but beyond that give it a rest. I know Jackson has another live action prequel or something in the works but I'd imagine it'll be about the same quality as the post LotR stuff.

And yet Dragonlance continues to languish.

This is every movie these days... thanks to digital editing people overshoot and don't know how to actually edit.

I actually saw Wicked also (not my thing, but well done) and that movie is pushing 3 hours or something ridiculous for no good reason...

Isn't that also a Part 1 of 2 deal?

My wife dragged me to the musical that was good enough. It had Larry from Threes Company as the Wizard.. that was the highlight for me.

Wicked?

Yah probably pushing 6 hours at the end of day... How they got that from a 2 hour musical I do not know. A shorter movie would still make as much money.. and be better for kids which is a chunk of that movies audience.

Not sure who has kids that can sit down and shut up for 3 hours...

Harry Potter showed everyone the best way to make more money out of a big movie is to make 2 movies
