2024 movies
« on: December 28, 2024, 12:21:25 PM »
welp... outside of The Substance I cant think of a single movie I saw this year I would say was good.

Best movies I saw were all older movie being re-played which makes it more depressing.

I have a movie pass thing and its what I do to blow off some steam and chill out so I am trying, I go a few times a month and see new stuff.

To make it worse the movies are getting longer and longer so if you get stuck in a bad movie its even more annoying.

Maybe next year... Nosferatu looks promising even though that "theme" been done 200 times now.

I know.  Dad.
Let us know how Nosferatu is.  I want to see that.

Well done, nicely shot but way too long (yes, again) and really adds nothing to the story you've heard 1000 times. A few lame jump scares and nothing really that scary overall.

It's worth a watch though... the trailer is better than the movie.

Let me load up the AMC app and reminisce over the year

Aquaman - Forgettable and kinda boring
The Beekeeper - Statham does a john wick. OK
Argyle - Disappointing retread of Long Kiss Goodnight
Lisa Frankenstein - Disappointing retread of several 80s movies
Drive Away Dolls - OK crime drama. I enjoyed it
Dune Part 2 - Much better than part 1 even though they turned Chani into a bitch
Poor Things - Fucked up Wes Anderson style softcore porno with a big budget. Enjoyed it
Ghostbusters Frozen Empire - Disappointing sequel that had 12 ideas but no follow through
Late night with the Devil - Fun low budget 70s horror romp
Monkey Man - One of the worst movies ive ever seen
Civil War - OK but forgettable
Abigail - Fun action / horror hybrid, enjoyed this one
Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - A bit off the rails but fun
The Fall Guy - Disappointing action movie that got tedious
Planet of the Apes - Good setup for the next phase.. more of the same but if you like these movies its still good
Furiosa - Not as good as Fury Road but still good. Deserved better
The Bike riders - I dont care about biker gangs but this was well done
A Quiet Place Day 1 - Pointless sequel
Kill - So much better than Monkey Man
Bad Boys - Mostly Pointless sequel
Deadpool and Wolverine - Fun about as good as first 2. I'm still done with multiverse.. please.
Twisters - Pointless sequel
Borderlands - Bad big budget fan film
Alien Romulus - Pointless sequel
Slingshot - Dissapointing TV movie level SCI-FI
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - Mostly pointless sequel
Speak no evil - Really good thriller
The Killer's Game - Forgettable but fun action movie
Howl's Moving Castle - One of the all time greats
Look Back - Some anime thing that was only thing playing when power was still out due to hurricane. I'm still confused
Joker 2 - So ridiculous that I enjoyed it
Venom 3 - Pointless sequel
Heretic - Fun low budget horror movie.
Red One - Loud and overly produced christmas movie everyone will forget about in 2 months
Gladiator 2 - Pointless sequel
Y2K - Fucking awful attempt at a horror movie
Darft Punk Interstella 5555 - Fun to see this on big screen
Lord of the Rings Anime - OK, could have made a Dragonlance movie with budget

My fingers hurt lol

A lot of shit remakes and sequels.. but a few good ones.

Most of the best movies were low budget / indies.. go figure

I think big hollywood is about done, especially the tent poles unless something changes.

Forgot Late Night with the Devil and Furiosa... they were both pretty good. Kneecap was watchable also, at least it was different.

Only movie I know I will always remember seeing is The Substance the rest went in one ear and out the other.

Oh and that Ghostbusters movie was one of my two walk outs all year... what a dumpster fire that was.

We saw Nosferatu last night.

Good movie. Like The Northman it's oozing with atmosphere. Bummer we saw it at the garbage local AMC with the washed out contrasts.. this will be nice to re-watch on the OLED in Dolby Vision in a few months (or lets be honest a few days given how fast streaming is).

But I'd recommend this one. It's not really a jump-scare horror movie at all.. but it's still good.
