Arcade importing from China
« on: February 01, 2025, 11:50:02 AM »
Recently had a machine brought in from China. I wasn't thinking about it before I purchased but these machines run off 240v. Does anyone have a recommendation for a known power inverter that can handle the machine? I see plenty on Amazon that range from $60 to $500. Just curious if anyone here has perspective or recommendations working with them.

No jumpers inside to re-tap the internal transformer like a pin?

Maybe it just uses switching power supplies and it will accept 120vac like home electronics?

You can buy transformer to step up from 120vac but need to know the amps or wattage listed. It may require a lot of power.  What are the details on the power label?   Any pics?

More info on the game would help. As Neal indicated, game may be able to be powered by 120V depending on it's power supply. If not, you also have to deal with China having 50Hz power.

Game is Jaleco Wild Pilots. I believe it operates at 310 watts.  I purchased a step up/down converter. Plugged it in but I'm getting nothing on the screen game, is playing blind. Machine guns operate with recoil and I can hear the compressor on for the motion seat but no movement. Perhaps because of the frequency issue so I think I will need a different converter.

most monitors convert the line voltage to a dc, so 50hz/60hz shouldn't be an issue, i would inspect the monitor, if the machine was dropped or had a rought trip, the monitor tube could of been damaged.

Game came pretty well packaged. I removed the shroud and the neck has a very faint glow. I could hardly see it was on. I have not encountered this monitor before or the wiring setup. Looks like it has a VGA bypass of some sort.

the vga is just adapted on both ends. 110% not factory.

was it sold as working? ask the seller over there.

they shipped it to the US, they should know what needs to be done to make it work here.

it's a 1992, it doesn't care about the Hz...the power supply should be able to be hot swapped out for
a 110 US based model that will fit to output the necessary voltages.

Was sold as working and sent a video of it fully functional before shipped. What's not plugged in is actually spliced into the VGA adapter. It is indeed plugged into the chassis.

please post better pictures, it looks like that cable isn't connected to anything.

in the pics, i see the adapter for that vga cable connected on both ends. :)

that "loose white end" is an option for a different monitor, i've seen that many times with VGA/LCD upgrades or hacks.

or it's the original RGB input, not compatible with the monitor in that machine now.

why the vga cable is even in use for this setup, i have no clue. there are much better adapter choices or modification
choices out there, and honestly, not needed if you use the correct tube for a 1992 jaleco cabinet.

how do you know the vga cable connected to the monitor is the not the same cable that has nothing connected to the other end?

Good thing you got it in before the 12000% tariffs.  :P

****Update****

After tracing the wire back to the PCB, the video cable must have disconnected during transit.

Now I just need to figure out why the motion isn't functioning. I can hear the motor compressor running but no functionality.
