REVIEW : CAPTAIN AMERICA WHATEVER
« on: February 19, 2025, 09:06:56 AM »
It's been reshot 11 times! It's a followup to the Captain America TV show (which was terrible), the Eternals (which was terrible) and the mostly forgotten but admittedly underrated Edward Norton Incredible Hulk movie. Huzzah?

So I wasn't expecting much with Captain America 7 but it's.. OK.

The plot does incorporate a lot of things from old and/or disliked projects but it mostly tells a coherent story. There is some attempt at investment.. not a lot.. but some. Anthony Mackie is OK here and they kept the America Sucks angle down in this one which is nice. Falcon/Captain America has so many gadgets now he's basically Iron Man with a shield though.. well minus the charisma. I'm still not sold on this character being A-list it still feels more like a mid-carder.

The surprise here was a reasonable performance by Harrison Ford taking over the William Hurt (RIP) role. He's the only character in the movie to have a real emotional arc.

Action sequences were fine. The pacing was fine. Overall it's fine.

Is it enough though? Disney has been in a slump and if we're talking pre-endgame Marvel this is a mid tier film like a Captain Marvel. They still really need Fantastic Four to hit solid.

this one wasn't bad.  I agree with jack's assessment, not great but passable and definitely better than most of what we have seen recently out of marvel.  No reason I can find to say it sucked really (unless of course you're on that 'must hate at all costs' bandwagon of life these days)

heh? Bandwagon . I do not go with the flow or bandwagon nothing in life . It sucked because of so many reasons .
Cap is not a super hero or took any drug to make him super . Yet most of the flick he performs superhero strength type stuff .  Maybe another under cover Krill or mystique type changeling or was it all wakunda tech .  Mr Fords acting looked to me like he was not into the role .
And last what most likely is a dei hire Shira Haas/Ruth Bat-Haas character lmao 90 pounds soaking wet being a badass John wick crouching tiger cracked me up .   And omg the cgi factor was over the top . If I never seen this movie it would be a zero loss .      I love so many films and content as seen in my own reviews . I Bandwagon nothing Brian !  Glad you enjoyed the show  ;D

I saw it last night and give it a 5 out of 10 at best.
I agree with Rich, for a non super soldier serum hero this Cap/Falcon was waaaaay more powerful than he should have been in all ways going up against top tier military and a red hulk.  Not that marvel is realistic but this was way over the top in my opinion.

Rich, in hindsight, the movie is worse than even previously written about by me.  It was a real mess and forgettable.
An insult to Marvel fans and adults.  I know some may disagree and that's fine.
