Companion

Not much I can say about this without ruining the movie.

Pretty good flick though... maybe not the most original thing I ever saw but it brings something new to the idea anyways.

Sort of a thriller/horror movie but has some comedy elements in it also... I didn't find it that funny but people were laughing at some of the dialogue.

Cute girl from Heretic is in most of it too so thats helps it along..  :P

Forgot to add movie will be much more interesting if you don't know the gist of whats going on...

The trailer etc kind of gives a big part of it away which is lame...

If you have not seen it, don't watch trailers or read reviews or eyeball the poster, will be better that way.

Saw it last night.

First thing, yes the movie wasn't what I expected. From the trailers I expected a shitty horror movie from the same people who made Barbarian which was also a shitty horror movie.

So was pleasantly surprised that this was in fact.. a SCI-FI Thriller instead. There's some violence but no way this is the horror movie the trailer implied.. and I think it may have hurt this movie more than it helped.

I agree this would have been better going in blind. Had you not known about the robot angle from the start it would have been a much more interesting film.. but that's marketing for you. I'm sure the Keanue cameo in that upcoming Ballerina movie was also supposed to be a surprise then marketing was like.. no we need him in the trailer.. so there you go. We can have nothing nice.

Anyway Companion.. tight and well made Robot thriller. Not entirely original as this ground has been covered multiple times.. much of this reminded me of the TV show Humans from a few years ago which explored similar themes and one of the main characters was even a sex robot.. but I guess once you go down the robot grapevine it mostly leads to the same place.

I do think it was meant to be funny in parts they definitely sprikled in some humor here and there.

But yeah don't want to spoil more of the film other than to say go see it. Once again the low budget movies seem to try harder and accomplish more.

Yah it was pretty good. A bit tame maybe.. I kinda wish it was more extreme in a way because there was allot they could have done with that topic.

Its not Emilia Perez good though :P

That pile is going to win 10 oscars just because of its "message" whatever that is supposed to be.

I thought Barbarian was great, except for ONE dumb stretch of logic near the end. Went in blind on that from good word of mouth. It made $45 mil theatrically worldwide on a $4.5 budget, did really well in streaming, and... despite all that has not been released on physical media, 4K or otherwise. I'll check out Companion.

I know I'm the odd one who hated Barbarian but I found it tedious. I didn't care for the gimmick of getting 45 minutes into the story then resetting everything and starting over with Justin Long. I also didn't enjoy that the plot didn't make sense and the big bad was an old woman ala XXX or whatever that was called. Old decrepit people aren't dangerous no matter how nasty you make them.

I love Zach Cregar on the Whitest Kids U'know but the 2 movies he's written have both been awful.

Saw it, thought it was 'ok'.

It was intended to be a more 'serious/scary' thriller, but post-production got shut down during all the Hollywood strikes and that gave them a more than normal extended time to look at their first cut. They shot the script, but as some films do they let the actors wing it after a few takes. So the material was already available to re-edit with a lighter tone, and after strikes were over they did just that.
