28 Years later.. a warning more than a review
« on: June 25, 2025, 08:21:55 AM »
28 Days later was a solid zombie film and help re-ignite the entire genre. It's sequel.. 28 Weeks Later was mostly Meh but watchable.

So here we are and we finally get a proper Danny Boyle sequel? How is it?

It's fucking awful is what it is.

It's a mishmash of ideas and tones that never really goes anywhere. It's one of those movies that you just wait and wait for it to turn a corner and get interesting or compelling but never gets there. It reminded me a lot of a previous Boyle joint The Beach. This is definitely more a24 (and not in a good way) than 28 Days Later.

The Zombies have changed. They aren't really the ragers we remember. They've settled down into more like zombie cavemen creating tribes, variants and even reproducing. They reminded more more of miniaturized versions of the titans from Attack on Titan. They only show up with the plot needs them to and they aren't really overly interesting. If you like seeing Zombie schlong on the big screen though go get yourself an A List because brother this is your time.

We get a slight amount of world building on what a quarantined England would look like after nearly 3 decades but not much. The main plot involves young 'Spike' and his relationship with his Dad and eventually his Mom.. but once again neither really gels in a meaningful way. It's nothing like what they did with The Road.

The biggest sin of the film however is man.. it's boring. It's just a slog with large periods of absolutely nothing of interest happening. How is this even possible in Rage Zombie world?

The ending goes off the rails into schlock territory apparently setting up a sequel from the director of the Marvels.. gee can't wait.

Anyway this movie is hot garbage. It wasn't just dissapointing it is one of the worst theatrical films I've seen this year.

I fix things.. all the things.. but you have reach out first to see how my queue looks. ( all things arcade/pinball/computer ) ... do not do house calls, repairs are generally live streamed on twitch.

Agree with Jack on all points. It was TUUURRRRRABLE.
I'd totally forgot the '3 new films' plan til the end when it turned into a comedy.
F*cking kids ruin ALL (most) horror films/tv shows.
