Hey, some of the local autocross/track guys are trying to get a new event off the ground, it's basically a mini one-lap of america type event.

Here's a quick snip from their website about what the event is:
Quote
In three days, you will travel nearly 1,200 miles (mostly after dark!), compete in at least 6 time trial events on real race tracks, and compete in other motorsports events and challenges along the way.  Just you, your co-driver, your car, and whatever you can fit in the back!  Just as if you had packed up and left your house for an impromptu race across the country, you'll face whatever the road has in store for you using nothing more than what you've brought with you.

BTW, if anyone wants to do it and needs a co-driver, I'd be interested. I won't have a car that will be usable for this event at the time (S2000 will hopefully be sold by then). I have plenty of autocross and a fair amount of track experience.

Looks like it's not going to happen... here's the press-release that was posted on their site a few days after you posted the link Rene...

Quote
The Southern Sprint – Cancelled Due to Economic Concerns
Tampa, FL, August 15, 2008 — Tampa Rally and Performance, a division of Treekiller Enterprises, has announced the cancellation of the 2008 Southern Sprint, a three-day, five-state road rally for amateur racing enthusiasts, punctuated by racing events at road courses throughout the Southeast.  The event was to be held over the Columbus Day weekend of October 11-13, 2008, beginning near Jacksonville, FL, taking entrants west beyond New Orleans, LA, and back east to finish in Savannah, GA.

Concerns over low entries presumably due to the current state of the United States economy and record high gasoline prices have caused the organizers of this event to rethink the event.  Instead of a three-day multi-track event involving a lot of expensive highway travel, the events has been condensed to a much more affordable single-day Test & Tune and driver's school event with an endurance race for "low-buck race cars" in the afternoon dubbed "the 4 Hour Sprint".

The Southern Sprint organization is devoted to continuing to provide high-value/low-cost road course events and hopes to bring a full 3-day event in 2009.
