Help with Hollywood Heat Please
« on: August 28, 2012, 03:04:27 PM »
Howdy,

Long story short.  This is my first pin and I need some help with what I assume is a board issue.  I just want to play this damn blast from the past.  I'm digging the pink and teal motif.

- The PO found battery damage on one of the boards.  He pulled all boards, cleaned them, removed the battery, and reinstalled all boards.
- Machine turns on, playfield lights come on, score board jammy reads several 0's.
- As I mess with stuff, I have been able to get the flippers to work.  I don't know what that  means at all.
- I tested power around the boards and get 5v until I get around the area where the battery was.  Then it's like 0.3v.

So, I don't know what I'm doing and basically I need someone to come out.  I will provide money, beer, and strippers (minus the strippers).

Any volunteers?   ;D

Take off the backglass. On the board on the lower right you should see a little daughterboard (not the little board next to it which you don't really need, on the actual cpu board itself) try wiggling it and pushing it a little and see what happens. For some stupid reason they put a prom on this board and the connections go bad and don't make good contact. Also ground mods help on the 80b systems too.

I know what board you're talking about for sure.  I pulled that off and reseated it a few times.  No positive results from that just yet.

I hadn't opened mine in a while but yeah that board is soldered on and it is only a prom on there, not the cpu like I stated earlier.

Haha. Oh.  I'll shoot a pic tonight.  This board has had a bunch of work to it.  There are jumpers everywhere on this thing.

Here's what I got going on.  Let me know if this sparks ideas or if anyone would like to fix it for money.

That daughter board you have in your hand is the one that should not come off.. When that board is attached, that's the one that causes the reset issues mine had.. i just had to wiggle the chip on that board, and the game would pop on and be golden.

Hmm, yeah.  The PO pulled it off right in front of me when I was checking it out.  Haha.  Well, anybody want to have a crack at this?   ;D

Well he did put a socket on there but who knows how good of a job he did. How much hacking did they do on the back of the board?

There are some jumpers here and there.  more than one, less than five.  Not sure if that helps.

Atarijim said that I could bring him the game to fix, which could be an option for sure.  He comes highly recommended.  However, it would be sweet to find someone in Orlando to do the job.

who's the PO?

a working system 80B MPU may be a cheap alternative. :)

Not a board member and I don't recall the dude's name.

That's a good point.  Anybody have a working system 80B mpu?   ;D
