Restore Progress - Gottlieb Bronco
« on: June 24, 2015, 11:10:07 AM »
Picked this up from a local Craigslister for 80 bucks. It is filthy, but starting to make some progress.

I figure posting here will keep me motivated to finish it quickly. Please follow along!

Started out really filthy! It was actually worse than this when I started, but I cleaned it up a bit as I was pulling parts off.

After a few Magic Erasers and a lot of denatured alcohol, here is where we wound up.

And then finally, 3 coats of wax and replacement of a few badly damaged posts.

Now ready to start tumbling metal and putting things back together!

Thanks for looking.

Black Sharpie paint pen and a VERY steady hand. I try not to get too carried away with touch up work as I am not an artist. If it is something simple like a circle or a straight line, I'll touch it up. Otherwise, I generally leave it alone.

Thanks for all of the kind and motivational words, everyone. I'll get back it again this weekend!

You could use vinyl decals to cover each one, as long as the surface was smooth.

to bad the lower playfield registration is off a smidgen.

Wow. I can't believe it has taken me since June to finish this! What a lazy bastard I've become!!!

Anyway, the playfield restoration is done and it looks like a brand new machine.

But, I'm having a problem. This game was 100% working before I tore the playfield apart. Anyone know what might be wrong?

The white wire with the red orange stripe on the C23 coil stack D is closed stuck and needs adjustment, open it up and it should play fine.

I've looked at every wire in here and I don't see one that matches that color.

I found Coil Stack D (Ball Shooter Relay) but there are no wires in that stack that match that color and all of the switches on Stack D are open.

I hate these old machines. They smell like dead people inside.

No worries on the smart ass ... I'm the first to admit that I know very little about the inner workings of an EM machine.

That said, I have no idea what is locked on. It's not obvious by simply looking at the playfield.

Hope your bringing it to FPF, just make sure all the parts in the correct place, I'll tune it up.

In the mean time, check under the playfield, you'll see this ratchet unit, check both coils making sure they move freely, and its resets all the way to home position, it should have these contacts open as shown.   It might need to be lubed to make sure its not sticking.
