I saw Hancock today. Overall I thought it was OK. As you probably saw from the trailers, the premise is Will Smith is a dick superhero. It's a good premise and the first half or so of the film does a good job. However, about half way through there's a twist that throws the film into left field. I won't give it away, but your acceptance (or not) of this twist will determine how you feel about the film. The general sentiment amongst most of your online reviewers is it sucks.. which I can see, but it didn't quite kill it for me and I still enjoyed it.
That said, I think had that completely followed through on their premise they would have had a better film, but what exists isn't that bad. It's just different from what the promotional materials (once again!!) would probably lead you to believe this film is. So if you'd like to see a quirky Will Smith superhero comedy-esque film, give it a go. It's OK as light entertainment but this isn't going to rank among the bigger films of the summer.. not even close probably.
