REVIEW : HONEY DON'T

Ethan Cohen is back with another attempt at a Tarantino-esque Crime Thriller. Margaret Qualley plays the titular Honey.. a fast talking lesbian private eye that's hot on a new case.. sort of.

Like Pulp Fiction this is a combination of different plot lines and characters.. however unlike Pulp Fiction none of these plots really tie into each other in a meaningful way. Chris Evans runs a crooked church/cult that is apparently also a drug front. What's up with that? Dunno. There's a bunch of murders.. it never really goes beyond that. There's various other vignettes and people Honey interacts with but no real payoff. In fact Honey never actually does any real detective work.. she just sort of meanders through the plot occasionally meeting characters who then exit the movie without any real interaction. It's bizarre.

Towards the end I guess they realize they need to have Honey actually DO something so they introduce another plot line that then resolves with an out of left field twist that Honey once again just stumbles into but is able to handle.. and that's a wrap!

It's a bit of a downer because the cast is really good and this had potential. Remember how I sometimes say a movie is a few script re-writes away from being filmable? Honey Don't isn't even an actual script I don't think.. they filmed the idea board from the writers room and just ran with it.

In summary.. Honey Don't features several fairly explicit sex scenes between Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza which easily makes this one of my favorite movies of the year. Highly recommended.

But not a good scripted story .
Got it.       Again where did the actually good writing disappear to!?  :'(
