Gotlieb Sys One Display help please
« on: January 06, 2026, 10:38:02 PM »
Hey Everyone.
I thought I had a power supply issue on my Countdown, turned out to be a fuse on my Pascal board, which I figured out with the help of some very nice Villagers...

Now, I've got the displays back up, except for the 4 segment status display.  It lights up, faintly and changes when there is a status change, but is not legible.

Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this display?  I checked the contacts on the display and cleaned the contacts, but no change.   Also, how do I tell if the display is bad, and if so what is the best replacement option.

thanks much in advance!
Dan

Thanks Jeff.   Sorry I forgot to mention that as a precautionary measure I went ahead and recharged all of the displays with a 12 volt power supply just in case that was part of my earlier issue with he blown fuse on the Pascal board.  After that all the other displays looked great.  I tried doing the status display again, but it's still not working correctly.

any other ideas on what would cause super faint display that doesn't look like it is displaying the correct info?

thanks
Dan

Flashlight and magnifying glass and recheck all your interior pin connections. Make sure they’re nice and shiny, and if you see any green or corrosion, that wire may not be making a good connection on the pin.

So,  I went through as many of the connections as I could get to, focusing on the ones that connect to the status display board.   Nothing.  Is there a way to know where the wires go from the status display board to specific spots on the main board?  I can't find anything in the manual that shows where the displays connect to the Pascal board.... or any of the original boards for that matter.   Not sure where to look at this point, is there a way to rule out the display being bad?

thanks much,
Dan

Take out your display and try it on another compatible game or borrow one and try it on your game. The other option is to send the pascal board off for testing. Could still be under warranty or a limited warranty, where you pay for part of the repairs.

Thanks Jeff,  good ideas.   Anyone on the west side of Orlando with a System One Gotlieb they would let me test the Status Display on?    I'd be very surprised if my Pascal board is still under warranty.

This all started when I blew the fuse on the Pascal board and all of the displays went black.   I cleaned all of the contacts on all of the displays and replaced the fuse.  All of the displays came back up, except for the game Status Display, which lights up faintly and looks like it is doing something, but it is very faint and hard to read.

Any other ideas on what specific leads control the status display would be much appreciated.

thanks again everyone.

Here ya go…

In a nutshell, 4 digit status display, A5J1P7-14 gets the segments from A1J2P1-7,18.
A5J1P2-A1J3P21
A5J1P3-A1J3P20
A5J1P5-A1J3P15
A5J1P6-A1J3P14
A5J1P19-gnd A2J3 P5
A5J1P18-5vdc A1J3P5
A5J1P17-42vdc A2J3P3
A5J1P16-3vac return A6J3P9
A5J1P15-3vac A6J3P7

If you charged the displays with a 9V battery and placed the battery leads on each end of the Futaba display tube, two minutes max on the larger displays, and one minute max on the four digit display. If you used a higher voltage on the four digit display, you probably burned up the display and the two driver chips.

Four digit display used $55, new tube $50, new LED replacement DIY kit $33.

I would try the kit first.

Yes, I charged it using a 12 volt power source for about 30 seconds...  seemed to work great for the 6 segments...

And thanks for the info, I'll try going through all of those today and see if that changes anything.

and... for the link,  I'll probably go the used route,  that way I'll only spend $55, vs. $88... $30 for the board that I screw up trying to assemble, and $55 for the used one...

Appreciate all your help with this machine Jeff.  You've kept it running for a long time.
