Eric and I did a deal for my 8 Ball Deluxe, that included a DE Star Wars basket case. As some of you know I can't resist a challenge.
I am going to update this thread with every new hurdle cleared. Maybe?
Got it to house on Saturday and opened my nightmare up.
Removed extra wires installed by some tech in S. America. One was for a counter, but the other was for -NO IDEA-.
Disconnected most of the upper playfield and traced some wires.
Realized game was not converted to 110v and did some cutting and splicing.
Plug it in and pray. NO SMOKE--Yeah! Boards not responding. Back to computer.
CPU is wrong generation--DAMN.
Sunday--Just did a little cleaning, Eric was right. The playfield is nice under the grime, really nice. Do some research and found out what works with what and what the sound board looks like. Mine does not exist, just some connecters hanging there and a big nothing.
Monday--Dog tired from work, but I know I have a CPU somewhere. Spend an hour in a hot warehouse and find it--YES!!!
Also find a Sound Board that will work. It was in the Bally box, don't ask.
Big question, will they work or am I pissing up a rope?
Install all, plus the ROM chips, realize I need a ribbon cable and connector. Have them both in another Hidy-hole.
Turn the -O-N- switch to the on position and still no smoke--yes, but no boot. I do get a sound note, but without a full boot I won't know if it is working.
Fiddle with the ribbon cables, very easy to get backwards. BOOM, I get a Video driver boot. YES YES YES.
Reverse the info cable and get-OPEN COIN DOOR- YES YES YES! On a D.E. this means that the batteries are dead. So I am getting a partial boot. Alas, I am tired. Next step is to pull CPU and check battery traces, I did install new batteries. And YES, I opened the damn coin door, but wiring is not looking right. Tuesday is another day.
