In point of fact abusing a customer service rep this morning got my bill lowered $60 a month...so I've got that going for me  ;)

My power went out for about 5 hours last night for no discernible reason - no rain, not much wind. Whole section of my neighborhood was out. It was like a preparation drill or something - "Get used to this, you're going to experience a whole lot more of it real soon!"

Storm doesn't blow in until tomorrow evening and my HD was closed this morning.  I know they gotta prepare too but WTH?  Lowe's is just now closing.  Even Ace Hardware and Harbor Freight stayed open.

They have houses to get ready and families to protect also.

Certainly they do and I recognized that in my post, but it's Home Depot.  We're not getting any significant weather until tomorrow evening.  Most businesses were open this morning.  They weren't.  Considering the role they play in helping a community prepare for something like this, they should have been.

Places like Loews or Home Depot it's a corporate decision to close - they're afraid of being sued by employees, and it likely is in a mandatory evacuation zone.

Even the McDonalds near my place was closed last night, pretty early too. Same deal. Little Ceasars was open though - I'm eating shitty leftover pizza right now!

My job on the other hand tried to spin working from home on Friday as "Because we're very concerned about our employees." - of course they only became very concerned shortly after Pinellas issued mandatory evacuations for Friday.

If you haven't gotten what you need from Home Depot by now not only is there not going to be any wood left but you're stoopid and don't deserve any.

We're not in an evacuation zone or even forecast to get much ore than tropical storm force winds, but who knows?  There were probably extenuating circumstances.  We did have brief power outages yesterday.  Ace and Lowe's loved the extra business I'm sure.
