The June 7th Auction
« on: June 08, 2008, 01:22:50 PM »
Well I was pretty dissapointed with the Auction. Last auction was also kinda weak but there were some incredibly good deals.. of course I didn't have a lot of pocket change to take advantage. Flip a few months later and I've got money burning a hole but absolutely nothing I could justify buying (and I was really, really trying!). Most of it was either junk or projects.. two things I definitely don't need.

Did anyone score anything neat?

One of the poorest auctions I've ever been to, and I've been to many.
The only things I was interested in were the Blast Cities and the Virtua Fighter (for the monitor). The VF sold for $200 and the monitor wasn't exactly spectacular-looking, and I couldn't justify a 4th Blast City in my living room, so I went home with nothing. One weird thing to note was there weren't many late 80's, early 90's stuff at all, save for a broken Shinobi (LOL dedicated) and a broken NARC. A severe shortage of classics as well.

Did anyone take prices? I usually do, but after I went to lunch, Stacie and I decided not to return.

This was my first auction where I got to catch the whole thing. I thought it was fairly fun to see. Sounds like I would love a bigger one then. I wanted to bid on the Blitz2000, but got a bit too high for me. Things did seem to be a bit higher and in worse condition than I expected though.

The main reason I wanted the Blitz was because it ran but had problems, I was kind of excited at the thought of getting to do a little work on it to make it nicer.

Ah well, probably for the best, I still havn't even been able to finish my first MAME machine. I gotta try to finish that up this week before I dive into another project  ;D

Was my first auction and wasn't too impressed with it.  Was nice to meet some of the regulars, and sorry I missed meeting a few of you.  Game selection was pretty weak, and as mentioned they were going for more than I was willing to pay.  Was thinking about the NGG but went a little over my target price.. Not a bad price mind you, but wasn't ready to pull the trigger on it.  No one here got it did they?  Seemed like a couple guys grabbing most of the pins.
Not sure if I'll be going to others if the trend continues to be like that... we'll see what happens.
Current lineup: DP pro, LotR, JP pro

Past Pins: TSPP, LotR, TotAN, Shrek, FT, BSD, PotC, CV, TZ, IJ, SM, AS

Like everyone else I was disappointed at the auction.  Did I hear them announce they wouldn't be back until November?  Five months between auctions?  Does a November auction mean no december auction?

It was great to meet lots of the guys.

Yeah we're all noobs! I have to change that.

Well we at least backed off from bidding $200 on it, heh!

One good thing about bad auctions.. not having to drag anything home.

Did anyone get prices? I got pics and will post them later... I got a few prices but gave up after half of the first row..

Prices seemed high, but probably because the selection was so poor. That Shinobi was either an iRobot or a Firefox style cabinet which means it would have been worth at least 10x more had it not been converted, but them the breaks.  But yeah a really odd selection this time. I think all the 'good stuff' went to Winston-Salem. Why on earth would a company schedule two auctions in the same 'general' region the same day??

That's actually positive as it means they are coming back (I figured the threats were just that).

They normally don't have auctions over the summer so the 5 month doldrum is pretty normal. We used to get at least 2 fall auctions (ie september or october and then november or december) but I'm just happy if we get one.

Someone has said earlier that they were pulling out of Florida.  I wonder if they are just finising the contract with the Fairgrounds, thus the lack of decent stuff?  What percentage of the merchandise does SA actually bring themselves?  Maybe the plan is to replace the Florida dates with the W/S dates, thus the same auctions on the same day?

Most of the items at the auction are brought in by locals. Rob would bring his own stuff from time to time (especially the slots.. but the container load) but I'm not sure if they bring anything at all these days. The fear is with the dwindiling amount of items and prices that eventually it won't be worth it for them to come to Orlando at all but to just stop at Atlanta or W/S. Most of your big time operators (the ones that bring the majority of games to the auction anyway) will send trucks up to Georiga or Carolina so Super Aucitons may not be out that much revenue. But obviously that would suck for us so we're all hoping it doesn't happen but it very well may eventually.

As Dan was saying at the auction though, this slump might just be due to some market issues and apparently all the regions are down so it's not like Orlando is just un-naturally bad or something. It could all bounce back by the fall auction.. well back to normal crap levels instead of crap-crap levels anyway :)

And that animated gif is driving me nuts man, can you just make it a static signature? thanks! :)

Did anyone see how much that missile command went for?  I couldn't stay but if I had it would have been the only thing I was interested in :)

I was traveling north last week and made it a point to go to the Winston-Salem auction on the way back home. The Winston-Salem auction is run by Auction Game Sales, the Orlando auction is run by Super Auctions. These two companies compete feriously, to say the least. Thus far Auction Games sales has simply kicked ass on Super Auctions in the south east. Yesterday was a little smaller auction than usual in Winston Salem, maybe 700-800 items in the auction. Super Auctions should not schedule auctions head to head with Auction Games Sales. For example, Russo from Apollo Games sales from the Tampa area was in force at Winston Salem, they bought at least two trucks full of games. Why? Because the auction in Orlando NEVER makes as much money for sellers as the auctions up north. The last two auctions in Florida, the Birmingham Vending and the one at the fairgrounds, the auctioneers announced this would be the last year in Florida for Super Auctions. I asked JR, the old dude auctioneer, about this one on one, and he thought this was a scare tactic to get people motivated to get to the Florida auctions. It doesn't sound like it's working! He also told me they had found a new site in Atlanta that would be used for the next Atlanta auction. Every auction I've been to in Orlando I got some great deals. I hope they come back there again too.

I wish we got the games the NC auction got.  I probably would have ended up with one or two if that was the case.  Comparing the prices though, Orlando brought in more on the AP and NGG I believe... I think those were the only 2 similar pins.
