Best way is not to raise and lower the pf every day. I only do that when something has fallen off and needs attention, otherwise I keep the game closed and locked. Are you showing the insides off for tours everyday or

Once a new game gets set up, it shouldn't need service inside for at least a year, if surface is cleaned as needed and not neglected. If you must raise it, and you don't want to take a chance of damage, try a thin sheet of scrap formica on each side and remove after servicing. Any good cabinet shop will have plenty of scraps laying around.
